Archaeology 2030 Progress Report December 2024

Historic Environment Division (HED) are pleased to announce the launch of the Archaeology 2030 Progress Report

Archaeology 2030: A strategic approach for Northern Ireland was launched in December 2020 and actively engages with the key issues and challenges that the archaeological sector in Northern Ireland faces. It is being taken forward as a collaborative project, with a wide partnership base from across the archaeological sector.

This report covers the period December 2020 to December 2024 and outlines updates on the following areas

Aims and recommendations

Aim 1: Archaeology on the ground

Standards, guidance and procedures that enable good archaeological practice

Aim 2: Understanding the past

Making knowledge and understanding more accessible

Aim 3: Sustaining the historic environment

The historic environment is managed, protected and actively cared for

Aim 4: Engaging and enriching people’s lives

Communicating the benefits of archaeology to as many people as possible

Aim 5: Innovation, understanding and skills

Developing learning and skills to equip current and future generations
